Who, What, Where, When, and Why?

“Breakaway to the Great Frontier” is Bayside Church’s summer evening vacation Bible school for children age 4 years (as of July 6th) through 6th grade (as of this coming school year).  We are hosting a western theme this year, and it will be unlike any VBS your children have experienced before, including games, contests, live band music, puppets, snacks, crafts, face-painting, temporary tattoos, balloon animals, bounce houses, dancing, recreation, wagon rides, drama, video, horseshoes, storytelling, and most importantly, an introduction to a life devoted to Jesus Christ.  Breakaway is scheduled from 6:00-8:30pm on Tuesday, July 7th – Friday, July 10th.  The location is the Bayside Church office suite at 2101 Freeway Drive in Woodland just past the Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express off of East Main Street.

Is there a time of follow-up or celebration?

All families of children attending Breakaway are invited to Bayside Church services held at Pioneer High School cafeteria the following Sunday, July 12th to celebrate and recap the week of fun and adventure.  Service times are 9:15am and 11:00am.  (Pioneer High School is located on the southeast corner of Gibson and Pioneer streets in Woodland.)

How do we register?

Pre-registration for children begins on Sunday, June 21st and runs through Sunday, July 5th.  Registration forms are available at Bayside Church on Sunday mornings and any day at the church office after Sunday, June 21st.  Registration forms will also be available on this website soon thereafter.  You may drop off the form and payment on Sunday mornings or mail the form and payment check to arrive no later than Friday, July 3rd to:  Bayside Church – Woodland, ATTN:  Breakaway, P.O. Box 2389, Woodland, CA  95776.  (Please do not mail cash.)

What are the costs?

PRE-REGISTRATION – Through July 6th, pre-registration cost is $25 per child.

(Children of volunteers – $15 per child.  Discount awarded as a REBATE after Breakaway.)

JUST-IN-TIME REGISTRATION – After July 6th, registration cost is $30 per child

at the Breakaway check-in table, or $10 per day per child if only coming for a few days.

(Children of volunteers – $20 per child. Discount awarded as a REBATE after Breakaway.)

Registration costs are reduced by $2 per child for two or more children from the same family or as additional guests of a family.

Registration costs cover, in addition to the items and activities mentioned above:

Breakaway to the Great Frontier t-shirt

Breakaway water bottle

Breakaway “saddlebag” backpack

and other prizes and give-aways as available.

BY-THE-DAY REGISTRATION – Registration is $10 per day per child for children who are only able to attend for one or two days.  Each child will still receive a Breakaway t-shirt, backpack, and water bottles while supplies last.  (No cost reductions for two or more children for by-the-day registration.)

How can I or my family help with Breakaway?

1.  You can VOLUNTEER in one of these areas:

Posse Leaders (small group leaders)

Deputy Posse Leaders (assistant small group leaders)

Saloon (snacks and refreshments)

Blacksmith Shop (crafts)

Schoolhouse (nursery and toddler child care)

Sherriff’s Office (security)

Telegraph Office (check-in and administration)

Wranglers (recreation)

Tattoo parlor (face-painting and temporary tattoos)

Doc’s office (first aid & safety)

2.  You can consider a DONATION specifically to provide scholarships for those families unable to send children because of costs.

3.  You can donate or loan MATERIALS to the church for use during Breakaway.  Please contact the Breakaway Director for a list of items needed.

4.  You can PRAY for a safe and fun experience for the children and for the message of the gospel to go forth in love and power.

How do I volunteer?

Volunteers must be age 15 years or older.  (Youth ages 12 through 14 may volunteer only if his or her parent is also volunteering.)  Posse Leaders (small group leaders) must be 18 years or older.  Deputy Posse Leaders must be 15 years or older.  All volunteers must fill out a volunteer application and be pre-approved as a volunteer. (NOTE:  Breakaway T-shirts for volunteers are provided for free, but available on a first-come, first-served basis.)

How can I qualify for the “children of volunteers” rate?

If we have enough volunteers to cover all the needs, you may not be needed as a volunteer and will not qualify for the “children of volunteers” rate.  If you are accepted as a volunteer, the discounts given for the children of volunteers will be award as a REBATE.  This means that you would pay the full registration fee up front and then later reimbursed for the discount with a cash rebate after Breakaway is over.

What if I cannot afford the registration fee?

You may e-mail or mail in a scholarship application (available with the other applications at Bayside Church or on-line) to be considered for financial assistance.  We will be offering both full and partial scholarships for registration costs based on the amount of donations received for such.

Can I pay with a credit card?

Only cash and check payments are accepted.  Make checks out to “Bayside Church – Woodland.”  (Please do not mail cash.)

Can someone else register my child on-site?

If you cannot personally register your own child, someone at least 18 years old may register him or her for you at the Breakaway check-in table starting on July 7th.  By doing so, they must agree to accept responsibility for the child in case of an emergency and in dropping them off and picking them up on time.

When do I check in my child every day?

Check-in begins at 5:30pm on Tuesday and at 5:45pm Wednesday through Friday.  Until those times, children will not be invited inside the Breakaway area and will need to remain under the control and care of their parent/guardian.

When do I pick up my child every day?

Pick-up begins at 8:30pm.  All children must be under the control and care of their parents or guardians by 8:45pm.

Can my children of different ages by grouped together?

No, children are grouped together according to age (like in school classrooms), not by families or friendships.  This is to ensure activities are not too juvenile for older children nor too advanced for younger children.

What about children under 4 years of age?

For children of VOLUNTEERS ONLY, on-site child care is provided for children at least 6 weeks old up to 48 months.

What should my child wear to Breakaway?

Plan for your child to get WET every day.  We recommend children wear their Breakaway t-shirts over appropriate swimwear.   PLEASE – one-piece bathing suits only for the girls.

What kind of snacks and drinks are provided?

Cool water will be available for the children at all times.  Volunteers will regularly enforce hydration for the children.  Simple snacks and refreshments will be included for the children every day, but these are not a substitute for supper.  Please plan to feed your children supper before or after Breakaway each evening.
